59'rpm

This piece began with a 4 min dance piece that the choreographer created over a year before it became 59’RPM. Annalisa Ledson started with the most popular music from 1958 and created a narrative where 8 ensemble members reveal pieces of their lives and struggles. It explores racism, sexism, how we are all different and how we are all spinning on a never ending record player. After choosing music the directed asked three play writers to create one scene each and from there a show was born. It was our job as the dancers and actors to create a cohesive show through movement. A year later we were fortunate enough to perform the piece again. This time since the writers had seen the other writers works they created two more scenes each and worked together to dive into each character so they could continue telling their story. I morph from singer, to soldier, to child.
We performed at Brooklyn Studios for Dance which is a large studio space with the audience seated in four corners. We changed the staging from proscenium to in the round and that changed the show.
